Chiruran 1/2

This short anime is just filled with weird characters and odd adventures. It’s a comedy slice-of-life periodic anime is just really weird.

We follow a group of samurais who train, eat and sleep together in a house. They’re quirky personalities and tendencies mean that some weird interactions occur.

While watching this anime, at the beginning, I tried to follow the story to find there really isn’t one. The episodes are only about 5 minutes long and it is filled with fun little stories. Other than getting a grasp of the characters, there really isn’t much else to dig into. If you like a light-hearted anime or just want to turn your brain off for a while, this anime is for you.

Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok Joo

This is a really cute drama that uses childhood friendship, but in a cute way.

Kim Bok Joo (Lee Sung Kyung) is a promising female weightlifter, who’s father has pushed her into working hard for her passion. While her father, Kim Chang Gul (Ahn Kil Kang), works hard at his restaurant and her uncle, Kim Dae Ho (Kang Ki Young), is trying to break into the entertainment industry. As the weightlifting team is not popular with boys, no one on the team has a boyfriend, well that is until Jung Joon Hyung (Nam Joo Hyuk) notices Bok Joo.

Joon Hyung is a swimmer in the same school as Bok Joo. One day, on campus, he bumps into Bok Joo and doesn’t recognize her until she comes back to give him back his handkerchief. When she falls into the pool and he saves her, the puzzle pieces starts to fall into place. As soon as they recognize each other Joon Hyung starts hanging out with Bok Joo and picks their relationship back up again.

The relationship in this drama is cute. Bok Joo is not the typical cute girl, or even a relatively thin girl. She very realistic that way. When she starts putting on weight to go up a weight group, Joon Hyung simply encourages her, as weightlifting is her passion. They show a very healthy relationship, where they talk openly and love each other even though they have their flaws. It also shows that even people who are not stereotypical pretty can find love and be happy. This drama just left me with a good feeling in general. This is definitely worth a watch as it’s a very happy go lucky drama.

The Devotion of Suspect X

Unless you follow the Galileo series, you’ve probably not seen this story before. This movie stars Wang Kai, an actor I adore who also played in ‘Love me if you dare’. This movie isn’t the best but given that there was no background to the story like the Japanese movie did, but it’s still really good as a whole.

We follow Chuan Tang (Wang Kai), a physic’s professor who helps the police with complex murder investigations as he can provide a different perspective. After a man was found murdered next to a Levee, suspicion falls on the victim’s ex-wife. While investigating Miao Luo (Ye Zuxin) mentions to Chuan Tang that he had met a man that was subscribed to the same publication as he. This leads Chuan Tang to find his friend Hong Shi (Zhang Luyi). The more Chuan Tang Looks into the case the more that he worries that Hong Shi is involved.

This is a fun movie. It’s not the best rendition of the story but it’s not horrible. Wang Kai did an excellent job portraying Chuan Tang. Zhang Luyi also got the aloof intelligent man down as well. The actors really make you feel for the characters as well. The original story gives the complex parts of people with higher intelligence also the intricate way that everything was planned out. I would suggest watching it when you can, I say this in theaters so it might be a little while till it’s out on the internet, or dvd.

Lemon Meringue Pie Murder (Hannah Swensen Mystery #4)

Hannah’s youngest sister, Michelle is back home for the holidays and the family is hoping for a nice quiet Christmas. That goes up in flames when Delores finds the body of one of the local residences in the basement of Norman’s newly acquired house. The only clue was one of Hannah’s lemon meringue pies with only 1 piece eaten. Though Hannah tries to stay away from investigating the murder everyone, even her mother, pulls her back into her investigation in order to solve the mystery of the poor woman’s death.

This is a very fun book, however, I did figure out who that killer was 1/2 through the book so that is the only part I didn’t like. The characters are growing nicely in this book. We are starting to see the merits of each of the 2 men that Hannah is dating, now that they have ironed out that they 2 men are jealous of each other. Though this series is very long, I am looking forward to how the relationships continue to evolve in the future. I’m hoping that this series goes the way of the Stephanie Plum series, where the relationships continue to be developed 28 books down the line. This book is worth the read.

Akiba’s Trip : The Animation

Ok… so for all those who love playing Ecchi video games this anime is for you. This anime is based off of a game by the same name, where in order beat the enemy you have to strip of their clothes.

So sure enough in this world there is an urban legend that describes monsters, known as bagurimono, whom lurk in dark corners of Akihabara. The bagurimonos want to destroy all the humans living and working in Akihabara.  Tamotsu Denkigai, a hard core Otaku, is almost killed by one while saving his sister. However, he is saved at the last moment by Matome Mayonaka, a bagurimono who has turned her back on her society and wants to live peacefully with the humans.

Even though this is an ecchi anime, I really enjoyed it. Yes it’s a little weird that they must strip people and keep their clothes on as to not die, however, it’s really fun. I saw Reina Scully play this game so I had to watch this anime when it came out. I loved this off the cuff anime. It was really funny and enjoyable for older audiences.

Strong Woman Do Bong Soon

This is a fun drama and I liked it a lot. I’ve been in a lull when it comes to watching dramas. This one caught my attention quickly.

We follow Do Bong Soon (Park Bo Young), she is an aspiring game developer and an extremely strong woman. Every woman in her family is gifted with amazing strength in order to help the less fortunate. There is a catch, however, if they ever use their strength for personal gain or to hurt an innocent then they will forever lose their powers. Though Bo Young tries to hide her powers she constantly uses them to save people. One day she crosses paths with An Min Hyuk (Park Hyung Sik) and he becomes infatuated with her. He tracks her down and convinces her to be his bodyguard as an opportunity to work at his company.  She jumps at the chance to work for his company. However, while he’s pining over her and trying to get her to notice him she only has eyes for her high school crush In Gook Du (Ji Soo).

With girls being abducted from their neighbourhood, Gook Du is busy trying to catch the culprit which makes the people around him targets. With Bong Soon’s sense of justice, she tries to help with the most that she can. Which is difficult because he doesn’t know about her strength.

The concept is cute as is the chemistry between the 2 main characters. Though, really, all of the leads have excellent chemistry. The 2 men both have Bong Soon’s best interest at heart. The over-arcing story was also interesting, it wasn’t just the normal romantic comedy. I love dramas that are a little bit darker that make you think. I will mention one thing though, Kim Won Hae stole the show for me. He plays 2 drastically different characters and I loved it. Definitely, suggest you watch it for yourself.

So while I was moving, I didn’t have much time to watch anime. That being said, I didn’t marathon this anime one night. It’s a short anime with each episode running only 5 minutes a piece. Thre is also 2 other series that I haven’t watched sadly. Give me 2 weeks and I’ll watch them.

The description on cruchyroll doesn’t really match with this anime. We follow a manga club that consists of Ai, Mai and Mi. These girls have vivid imaginations that they let roam free. Instead of working on their manga, as that is their club activities, instead, the distract themselves with far out fantasies and inane adventures.

This is a really funny anime that I enjoyed this anime and it reminds me a lot of Teekyu with the fast action and weird comedy. This is not your standard slice-of-life anime, however, this is well worth the watch in my opinion. It won’t take you much time to watch it.
