The Devotion of Suspect X

Unless you follow the Galileo series, you’ve probably not seen this story before. This movie stars Wang Kai, an actor I adore who also played in ‘Love me if you dare’. This movie isn’t the best but given that there was no background to the story like the Japanese movie did, but it’s still really good as a whole.

We follow Chuan Tang (Wang Kai), a physic’s professor who helps the police with complex murder investigations as he can provide a different perspective. After a man was found murdered next to a Levee, suspicion falls on the victim’s ex-wife. While investigating Miao Luo (Ye Zuxin) mentions to Chuan Tang that he had met a man that was subscribed to the same publication as he. This leads Chuan Tang to find his friend Hong Shi (Zhang Luyi). The more Chuan Tang Looks into the case the more that he worries that Hong Shi is involved.

This is a fun movie. It’s not the best rendition of the story but it’s not horrible. Wang Kai did an excellent job portraying Chuan Tang. Zhang Luyi also got the aloof intelligent man down as well. The actors really make you feel for the characters as well. The original story gives the complex parts of people with higher intelligence also the intricate way that everything was planned out. I would suggest watching it when you can, I say this in theaters so it might be a little while till it’s out on the internet, or dvd.

This has been popping up on my dramafever lately and I felt like I should watch it. I’m so happy that I did.

We follow 3 couples, that are all looking for love. Some have to overcome their own personal feeling about themselves, while others are simply looking for love in the wrong places. Recently out of the military, Jin Woo (Yoo Ah In), a famous actor , turns down a role in Gyung A’s (Lee Mi Yeon) latest drama. After having gone into the military right after a one night stand, Jin Woo is unaware of Gyung A’s child until after a wedding. He is certain at that point that the child is his but Gyung A refuses to comment on it.

Meanwhile, Sung Chan (Kim Ju Hyeok), a Japanese restaurant owner, starts a lease a new apartment right before his wedding. However, his finacé leaves him and he has the apartment to himself. The person he leased it from, Joo Ran (Choi Ji Woo), was swindled out of her money and now has no place to stay. Sung Chan offers to share the apartment with her, he even goes as far to introduce her to a friend who is looking for a romantic partner. What could be better?

A regular at Sung Chan’s restaurant, Soo Ho (Kang Ha Neul) is a songwriter, but after being in a car accident in high school, he looses his ability to hear. After meeting Na Yeon (Esom) at the restaurant and having a good time, he falls in love but can never admit that he’s deaf to her. This leads to them exchanging messages on facebook, waiting a long time before meeting again.

This is a really cute movie that I enjoyed. The character development was subtle but there through out. I found myself rooting a bit more for one couple over others, but that’s normal when it comes to stories involving multiple couples. The pairings’ chemistry were perfect and believable. If you want a nice light hearted movie you should give this movie a try.

Like Father Like Son

This is not an easy movie to watch, mainly because it deals with suddenly finding out that your child is not your biological child and the ramifications of it.

The Nonomiya family is living their life like normal when one day Midori (Ono Machiko) gets a phone call from the hospital where their son Keita (Ninomiya Keita) was born. They are requested to be met. Midori and Ryota (Fukuyama Masaharu) go and are told that their child was swapped at birth. The Nonomiya family and the Saiki family meet and together they must decide whether or not to swap their children.

This movie really tugs on the heart strings. I can not even imagine what the people in this situation would really do. The actors were perfect and really brought the mixed emotions to the audience. This is a really good movie to watch if you want a more emotional movie.

I have been bored lately so I wanted to get some feedback from the people who are always around. I have prepared a little survey with 6 questions and 4 or them are multiple choice. All answers are annonymous so feel free to say what ever you feel, but trolls all know who you are. You can either click on the image above or Here to pop over to the survey. I want to thank everyone who takes the time in advance. You’re awesome.

Midsummer Formula

If you loved the Galileo series then this is right up your alley. This is the movie continuation after season 2 of Galileo. Just think of it as a 2-hour long episode of the series.

We follow Yukawa Manabu (Fukuyama Masaharu) who has been invited to give a talk about  Submarine Mineral Resources Development in Harigaura. However, on his second day there another lodger was found dead on the shore. Tsukazaka Kyohei (Yamazaki Hikaru), a young boy visiting his family, mentions how the death of the man makes no sense. Kishitani Misa (Yoshitaka Yuriko) Yukawa takes a liking to the young boy and together they try and figure out what happened. That is until Yukawa figures it out and makes sure that Kyohei never finds out.

I love the series and this is a really good continuation of it. I might have a mild crush on Fukuyama and his fabulous acting. This is definitely a movie to watch if you like crime fighting mysteries or the Galileo series.

If Cats Disappeared From the World

This is not a movie to watch if you want a happy movie. However, it is a beautiful story and excellently shot. It’s based on a book by the same name. I will admit that I clicked on it thinking that the title was funny and wondered what it was about. Also, during the movie, we never get the character’s name so we will call him postman.

We follow a 30-year-old postman (Satou Takeru) is plagued by severe and sudden headaches. He reaches out to a doctor about his headaches and get’s advised that he has a brain tumour. When he comes back home, he is greeted by a devil who tells him that he can leave if he erases one thing from the world. As he goes through trying to pick something to erase he is faced with different people in his life and what would be affected if the item was gone.

This is an emotional story that touches home. You can almost imagine what it would be like to know that you won’t wake up the next morning. Yet the idea of knowing that you have an option to survive but whatever you chose it will forever change your relationship with someone ou love. The beautiful use of flashbacks, scarce use of music and the visuals associated with the headaches were utilised perfectly. This movie pulls on the emotions and makes you relate to the character. I can only imagine what the novel must do. I would definitely recommend this movie but only when you want to have a sad movie day.

The Liar and His Lover

I didn’t know walking in that this was a film starring Kubota Masataka, but it is. He plays the second male lead in this movie and he does it wonderfully. I had forgotten how much I love watching him act.

We follow Ogasawara Aki (Satou Takeru), the main songwriter for the band Crude Play. He left the band right before their debut but continues to write their songs after he was replaced by Shinhara Shinya (Kubota Masataka). He meets a 16-year-old girl who is the daughter of a local vegetable stall owner. She has a talented voice and they start seeing each other. To hide the fact that he’s Aki from Crude Play, he borrows Shinya’s name. And thus starts his cycle of lies.

This is an excellent movie. It uses music very well and plays to the actors’ strengths. Though this movie is based on a movie, it is not as awkward as most of the transition movies are. They tone down the extreme reactions, except for a few, and made it very relatable. The love story is believable, however, I would feel really weird dating someone 10 years my junior but that’s just me. Overall, the writing was fantastic, it was shot perfectly and the actors did an awesome job. I really wish it was lnger than 2 hrs.
