BanG Dream!

Looking for an school idol slice-of-life anime? Then this anime is probably for you.

One day, Toyama Kasumi follows a path of star stickers to an old, rundown pawn shop. Inside she meets Ichigaya Arisa, the daughter of the owners, who happens to me a girl from her school. In the back of the store, a star-shaped guitar happens to catch her eye. She suddenly is overtaken by the urge to form a band and perform with her friends.

This is a typical school idol anime. This is a light-hearted anime, with bright colours and some good music. This isn’t going to be an anime if you don’t like the school idol genre. I feel like this anime also played up a lot of the same anime trops that are used in this anime. This was not an anime for me, but it is a good anime for people who like school idol animes

I was looking for another eerie anime and I had high hopes for this one and it came through all the way till the end.

Six years after a series of murders and an earthquake that destroyed a portion of Shinbuya. A string of similar deaths have started to pop up. Miyashiro Takuru and the new paper school in his school takes notice to the odd events. They pull themselves deeper and deeper into the events then they would have expected when they started to look into the events.

What I really like about this anime is that the first episode is that background to the anime’s situation. It gives you more background to the New Generation Madness that is returning. This allows people who have never played the videogames to know what’s going on. Though dark, this anime was really good. The character development is really good and we really get a good connection to the character. The dark colours that run throughout the anime really draws the watcher into the subject matter that they are exploring. I would be weird if we were talking about human experimentation and everything is very bright. Overall, I loved it and think that it’s worth a watch for anyone looking for a darker anime to watch.

Koro Sensei Quest!

If you like the anime Assassin Classroom, then this little short spin-off might be for you. Except, instead of it being in the real world they are in an RPG. So the entire gang is back for a new ad

So the entire gang is back for a new adventure. The class is all brought together because they all have some type of glitch that changes their characters in some way. Koro sensei, or big bad, believes that this would let them defeat him.  So the class struggles to figure out how to kill Koro sensei.

This is like a light little reboot for the assassination classroom. It uses the same characters as the other anime series.  Though the trails and tribulations are similar the series is really short so it runs quickly. I enjoyed this anime more than assassination classroom, but I think that’s because it doesn’t touch on the same types of dark subjects that the first anime series did. Overall though, I really like this anime.

Gabriel DropOut

Apparently while prepping for my move I watched a lot of slice-of-life anime… who am I kidding I always watch a lot of comedic slice-of-life anime. This series was one that I found quite fun.

We follow Gabriel, an angel who’s sent to the human world to study. Though at first, everything seems fine, she falls into a pit of addiction of video games and starts to accumulate many vices. Her best friend, Vignette, is a demon who acts more like an angel than Gabriel does. Vignette tries to get Gabriel back on track however, she quickly gives up as she sees it’s a lost cause. Vignette, Raphi and Satania are all brought together thanks to Gabriel. We get to watch this mismatched friend group and the trouble that they get into.

If you are a fan of slice-of-life animes than this will be fun for you. There is no romance and it aims to be a comedic show. The thought of angels and demons coming to earth to study the world is interesting. It also shows that no matter watch your background, everyone can get along. The stark contrast between Fallen Gabriel and Angel Gabriel is drastic and you kind of also wonder how Raphi hasn’t fallen yet. All in all it’s a fun show that makes you laugh and is worth a watch.

Ai-Mai-Mi Surgical Friends

The gang is back and they are avoiding drawing animes again. This is season 3 of the anime. The girls still have overactive imaginations and their friends are joining them for their weird fantasies. Mi even gets a bit of back story in this anime. Though given the format of the show you assume it’s completely made up in her mind’s eye.

I still say that if you like Teekyu and other fast past and ridiculous animes this is probably the anime for you. It’s ridiculous and I’m pretty sure whoever wrote this has a similarly overactive imagination as the characters. You can easily read it over an hour has each episodes run times are only 3.5 minutes.

Chiruran 1/2

This short anime is just filled with weird characters and odd adventures. It’s a comedy slice-of-life periodic anime is just really weird.

We follow a group of samurais who train, eat and sleep together in a house. They’re quirky personalities and tendencies mean that some weird interactions occur.

While watching this anime, at the beginning, I tried to follow the story to find there really isn’t one. The episodes are only about 5 minutes long and it is filled with fun little stories. Other than getting a grasp of the characters, there really isn’t much else to dig into. If you like a light-hearted anime or just want to turn your brain off for a while, this anime is for you.

Akiba’s Trip : The Animation

Ok… so for all those who love playing Ecchi video games this anime is for you. This anime is based off of a game by the same name, where in order beat the enemy you have to strip of their clothes.

So sure enough in this world there is an urban legend that describes monsters, known as bagurimono, whom lurk in dark corners of Akihabara. The bagurimonos want to destroy all the humans living and working in Akihabara.  Tamotsu Denkigai, a hard core Otaku, is almost killed by one while saving his sister. However, he is saved at the last moment by Matome Mayonaka, a bagurimono who has turned her back on her society and wants to live peacefully with the humans.

Even though this is an ecchi anime, I really enjoyed it. Yes it’s a little weird that they must strip people and keep their clothes on as to not die, however, it’s really fun. I saw Reina Scully play this game so I had to watch this anime when it came out. I loved this off the cuff anime. It was really funny and enjoyable for older audiences.
