Dreamleaf Blues (The Book Wielder Saga)

Genevieve is a pretty normal college student. She lives with her best friend and love interest Annabelle. However, when Annabelle doesn’t come back from her shady job, Genevieve dives into the mystery to find her. However, things don’t go quite as planned when she’s attacked and wakes up as a vampire. Now she as she continues trying to find Annabelle, she must also become accustomed to her new life.

I really enjoyed this book. It was fast past and filled with a lot of character and world building. Though this book is an urban fantasy, there is a little bit of world building because this world is slightly different from our current world. I don’t really know what happened, but there seemed to be a war of some sort because things like cars, computers and fuel are super expensive. They use credits, instead of dollars, and it seems that the gangs have a lot more control of the society.

The 4 groups of supernatural beings are really interesting. It did feel like I was reading a Dungeons and Dragons handbook because the vampires, werewolves and sorcerers all have some groups because of their proficiencies. There was a lot to keep track of, however, it was laid out well in the book. Since this is almost like an origin story, since Genevieve is being inaugurated into the wo*rld, the readers get to follow along with her learning curve.

I enjoyed that the main character is a very strong gay female. The fact that she is gay isn’t the be all and end all of the book so she got to shine in her role. A lot of the females characters in this book are strong and very interesting. they were likable enough to actually want to know more about them and they were not one dimensional.

This was quite a fun book.

I received a copy of this book from the author via Voracious Readers Only.
