Sonja and Frank’s wedding is finally on, and everyone in the town is super excited. However, the morning of a wedding, a younger couple has been missing for the entire weekend. The couple agrees to postpone the wedding until the couple is found. When Sonja meets with a young ghost, she is worried about the wellbeing of the couple, and so is Frank.

This was a cute little book. I always enjoy books that include a marriage. Though Frank and Sonja still have a lot of issues that they have to resolve, they are an adorable couple. I really do enjoy reading about their love story. I will say that in this book they really do work well together. Their teamwork has been getting better throughout the series. However, I feel like Frank needs to get used to Sonja’s powers a little more especially if he is going to continue to rely on them.

The mystery was actually fascinating. Though I will admit, I didn’t really see the plot twist coming until really late into the story. I actually really enjoyed that part of the book. The way that Sonja’s powers were used in this book. I feel like there is a lot more than we need to explore with her powers. However, I enjoy that she is still not overpowered.

Overall, I really enjoyed this book. It is an excellent book that’s added in the series.

Sonja’s birthday is coming up soon, and she isn’t expecting to do anything special for her birthday. However, when Frank admits that he got his hands on a new attraction that is only just opening, Sonja agrees to go with him. They thought that they were only in for an old fashion western train ride. However, when a murder takes place on board, they are thrown into another mystery. This time, they are outside of Frank’s jurisdiction, and they have to play by the local’s rules, and he does not like it.

This was an interesting little storyline. We get to meet someone from Frank’s past, and Sonja is a bit confused as to why she had never heard of this person before they met up on the train. Mind you, even as an engaged couple, there will be something about the other person’s past that you will not know about each other. It’s only reasonable, especially since they have been together for a short amount of time.

I enjoyed that in this mystery, Frank was out of his jurisdiction. He ends up working with Sonja, trying to find out who the murderer could be. The way that Frank and Sonja work together is interesting, and they work well together. Sonja still takes some foolish risks throughout this book, but I have somehow gotten used to them. I still don’t think anyone should follow anyone, much less a ghost, on to the roof of a train in the winter.

I did enjoy this book.

Christmas Waffle Caper (Wicked Waffle Mystery #4)

The Christmas season has arrived! As Sonja and Frank are the newest couple in town, they are inundated with invites. Their holiday calendar is fuller than either of them have seen it before. However, before they can enjoy the first party of the season, Sonja has a delivery to make. This delivery steeped in mystery and problems. When their truck is stuck, and the ferry is forced to stop for the night, they are forced to stay with the family who asked for the delivery. When Sonja starts seeing the ghost of the family’s youngest daughter, she knows things are going to be going from bad to worst.

This was an enjoyable little book. I enjoy how Franck and Sonja work with each other throughout the book to figure out the mystery. Frank is still really against Sonja helping him solve any murders, and he keeps quoting the law. When Sonja speaks with someone in the police station to tell them what has happened, they also agree that Frank should deputize her to be able to help him. I still enjoyed the reality in their relationship. Though it is a lot better than the tensions in the last books, however, now they are an engaged couple.

The mystery was intriguing. The reader got to delve into the family’s past. We get to learn a lot about the daughter as well as the history of the family. I enjoyed how the storyline was able to expand on Sonja’s powers and add another layer to them for future books. The addition is something that we frequently see in books that deal with ghosts, however, it adds to what the characters can do without making them overpowered.

All in all, I enjoyed this book.

Thanksgiving Waffle Murder (Wicked Waffle Mystery #3)

Thanksgiving is a time to be together with friends and family, and this season, everyone is coming to Sonja’s house to celebrate. Festivities are somewhat halted when a dead body is found in the manor. Sonja is determined to find out who killed the last minute guest she invited, all the while trying not to step on Frank’s toes during the investigation.

This was a simple book, and the character building was minimal. Though the murderer was obvious, we saw how loyal Sonja was and never suspected them. I will say that Sonja’s loyalty also bleeds into the reader’s bias and affects the way that the reader experiences the novel. The use of a premonition was really interesting, even though she realizes what it meant a little too late. I did really like how the mystery paralleled with the premonitions from early in the book.

The relationship between Frank and Sonja this book was tense. Frank does point out a serious issue with their relationship that the readers could see from a mile away. In most cozy mysteries, the issue of the main character poking their nose into police business, while dating a cop always causes issues.  I’m just surprised how long it took, seeing how Frank is written to be a stickler for the rules. I know that in the idealistic world of cozy mysteries, nothing will happen, but I can dream.

Overall, it was an interesting book and a good addition to the series.

Halloween is a sacred time for Haunted Falls, and when a newcomer to town tries to remove three middle school’s Halloween party people are not happy. The principle is certain that someone is trying to scare him into re-implementing the party, but he will have none of it. However, when he’s found dead the next day, there may have been something behind the threat.

I will say that there are a few really annoying characters in this book, however, given the storyline it made sense. With the two new people in the comity moving the Halloween party and calling it a harvested part, tensions ran high in this book. The unlikable victim seems to be a comes trope in this series, however, this guy takes the cake. Though I understood the reason behind the murder, I found that it was really mundane. I expected something a little more interesting.

Frank actually asks Sonja to check for any paranormal activity surrounding this case. This book, similar to the last book is really focused on the normal mystery rather than the supernatural reasons. It was really fun to see the interaction between Sonja and the middle school kids that come to the eatery to play games. She is definitely the responsible adult, however, they also treat her like an older sister. We also get to see how frank acts around and it’s cute. Sonja even mentions that he will be the lenient dead when he has kids.

Overall, this was a really interesting book and I had fun reading it. I’m still interested in the rest of the series.

Belinda has decided to leave Haunted Falls and has requested that Sonja moves into the manor to take care of it until she comes back. Though Frank has some qualms about it, Sonja assures him that this is only because Sonja was Belinda’s only friend in haunted falls. After a year of calm, another murder has been dropped on Sonja’s doorstep. When a woman is killed in front of the eatery, Sonja’s gears start turning, there is something going on again.

This is an excellent start of the series. As nothing in Sonja’s life is allowed to be easy, she has to go through some trials and tribulations just to fulfill a friend’s request. Sonja doesn’t find out until the end, however, Belinda ends up sending this poor woman to her death. As the person who was trying to kill Sonja accidentally killed this woman. I wonder how Belinda will feel about that when she finds out. I did enjoy the little breadcrumbs leading the readers to the murderer.

I really liked the relationship between frank and Sonja in this book. Though they are not working together, Sonja happens to fall into it like she normally does. It was also interesting to see their fight about her moving into Belinda’s manor, as it doesn’t seem right to him. All in all, he does come around to the idea off it comes to an understanding behind Belinda’s reasoning. The relationship is back to being a little flat, I was really hoping for the development that we saw that the end of the last series to carry over.

I really enjoyed this book and like forward to the new series.
